Art Of Violin: Historical Violin Recordings of Jascha Heifetz, Kreisler & more.
“Until very recently, it was believed that Mr. Heifetz made his first recordings in America, a little less than a month after his Carnegie Hall debut in 1917. Now a single 78 that he cut for Russian Gramophone in 1911, at the age of 10, has come to light. It contains two popular encore pieces of the day: Francois Schubert’s “Bee,” and Dvorak’s “Humoresque.”
The New York Times, Sunday February 2, 1986
“...These extraordinary series on a historical survey of violin style are unique and extremely well done. I recommend them to all interested in our violin roots.” Dr. Gerald Fischbach, Professor of Violin and String Pedagogy
A Tribute to Heifetz
In honor of Heifetz's eighty-fifth birth- day we are pleased to be able to offer for the first time a record issued in conjunc- tion with THE STRAD Magazine. “A Tribute to Heifetz” also presents a first in the history of Heifetz recordings: “The Bee” by Franz Schubert (1808-78), together with Dvorak's Humoresque, were record- ed by Heifetz at the age of ten in Russia. Through the generosity of Yuri Beliavsky, who owns the copyright of the master tape, we are making part of the original recording available to the public for the first time. THE STRAD, February 1986 HEIFETZ BIRTHDAY ISSUE
Dear Yuri, Many thanks for your contribution to the success of our 1988 International Workshop adventure. We have had enthusiastic responses to your Heifetz session, and I am delighted that it worked out for you to join us. Sincerely yours, Dr. Gerald Fischbach, Director International Workshops
